The following full day tours are only available on Tuesday 10 August 1999, which is the rest day for the meeting. Full Day Sightseeing Tour of Edinburgh Travel to Edinburgh by historic Linlithgow, where you can see over to the magnificent ruins of Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots in 1542. In Edinburgh you will have a panoramic tour of the sweeping Georgian terraces and crescents of the ``New Town'' - designed to accommodate the overflow from the ``Old Town'' of Edinburgh. You will visit Princes Street, Edinburgh's most famous shopping street with it's beautiful gardens and the famous Royal Mile. You will also visit the Palace of Holyrood House followed by Edinburgh Castle - undoubtedly Edinburgh's most famous landmark. After lunch, close to the Royal Mile, the remainder of the afternoon is free for shopping and/or sightseeing.
Price per person £35.00 Full Day Tour of Inveraray & Loch Lomond From Glasgow you travel along the banks of the River Clyde to Helensburgh, then by way of the shore of the Gare Loch and Loch Long you wend your way to Arrochar, surrounded by Loch and Mountains. You climb high up and over the aptly named ``Rest and be Thankful' mountain pass down to the 18th century town of Inveraray on the banks of Loch Fyne. You will have a visit to Inveraray Castle, the home of the Duke of Argyll, chief of the Clan Campbell. After lunch you travel past lonely Kilchurn Castle by Loch Awe and through Glen Lochy, Strath Fillan and Glen Falloch on to the gentler banks of Loch Lomond where you board a cruiser at Tarbet for a short sail on this most famous of Lochs, before returning to Glasgow.
Price per person £37.00 Full Day Tour of the Isle of Arran From Glasgow you travel along the Clyde coast through Skelmorlie and Largs, enjoying as you go some of the finest views of the Firth of Clyde, until you reach Ardrossan where you catch the 55 minute sailing to Brodick on the Island of Arran - often described as Scotland in miniature. On disembarking you will visit Brodick Castle, whose site has been fortified since Viking times and whose present structure dates to the 13th century, with extensions added in the 17th and 19th century. As well as visiting the castle you will have a scenic drive on the Island's famous String Road, with magnificent views to Kintyre before returning by ferry to Ardrossan and back to Glasgow.
Price per person £47.00 Scenic Geology Tour Starting from Glasgow, you will have a scenic ride along the eastern shores of Loch Lomond to Balmaha and its Visitor Centre with a fine view of the Highland boundary fault (the junction between the Highlands and Lowlands of Scotland). Views across the Loch include ancient volcanoes. You will then travel to Aberfoyle and another visitor centre for lunch. Again there are superb views of great geological interest. From there you will travel to past Loch Katrine and the romantic Trossachs with their ancient Highland rocks to Flanders Moss (an ancient post-glacial bog), and then to Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument, both giving different views of Highland geology and the Ochils. The trip will be accompanied by experts from the Division of Earth Sciences at Glasgow University. Some walking is involved and sturdy footwear and waterproof clothing is advised. There is some limit on numbers.
Price per person £48.00 Golf at Dalmahoy Golf & Country Club From Glasgow you travel by luxury motorcoach to Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club on the outskirts of Edinburgh for a day golfing at one of Scotland's finest golf and country clubs. On arrival, bacon rolls and coffee will be served before a round of golf on either the East or the West Course. Both courses are set in wooded countryside with numerous lochs and streams. The West course is a par 68 of 5,185 yards and features two spectacular crossings of the Gogar Burn. The East is a par 72 of 6,677 yards and has been host to many major championships. Lunch is included in the day's outing and the facilities of the clubhouse and leisure centre are available throughout the afternoon. Option 1: You return to Glasgow at the end of the afternoon
